Sherlock meme: six characters [3/6] John Watson

Sherlock Au
↳Captian John Watson, also known as the Crack shot Assassin, remembers the first day he met Mycroft Holmes. He had been on a mission, chasing after a low profile rookie agent who had spilled government secrets, when he slammed into Mycroft Holmes knocking them both down onto the wet streets of London. He wasn’t sure if it was his love of expensive cigars, a smell he was sure he could pinpoint on Mycrofts expensive suit, or the raised eyebrow paired with a smirk of a man who merely pressed a gun into John’s hip unafraid and poised to fight. John never asked why Mycroft had a gun on his person, it never occurred to him that it might be more than a safety precaution, possibly a job requirement.
He could still remember the cafe that they frequented when his ‘army’ job, and Mycrofts ‘minor’ government position happened to give them time away. He even remembered when Mycroft had admitted his affections for him and his desire to further their relationship. John had stopped him quickly, almost too quickly and he did not doubt Mycroft could deduce he felt the same, but never the less he had reminded him of their jobs and that he was, in fact, married to his. Relationships were not and would never be an option. Mycroft had simply looked down as if temporarily taken off-guard. John had grimaced inwardly knowing that Mycroft had assumed John returned his affections, and why wouldn’t he after the rendezvous they had in government offices and dark alley ways.
John is almost surprised when he is given his new target, M. Holmes, a rogue undercover agent with level 5 priority. John smiles affectionately piecing together Mycrofts vague stories about work, his adeptness with weapons, and his almost omniscient personality quirk of deduction. When John calls Mycroft’s phone he can only just make out a soft sigh and he knows the game is up, John softly whispers before hanging up the phone, “You have two hours. I love you.”
If You Were Gay - Johnlock version.
Yes.
I remember watching this in the infancy of my obsession. Ah, those were the days.
The first time you see it, it can hit you really hard, especially since Sherlock is on a total roll and John delivers the line “please God, let me live” in a way where you can be forgiven for not being sure if it’s serious or snark. It apparently has the same effect on Sherlock, as well.
We never do get any details on how Captain John Watson of the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers was wounded in action. But from this exchange alone, it’s clear the situation was extremely serious. He was badly wounded, nearly died, and developed PTSD- Sherlock had himself earlier pointed out that the original circumstances of John’s injury must have been ‘traumatic’, and he meant emotionally traumatic, not just violent and painful. The blunt earnestness of John’s response even trips up Sherlock for a second or two, and he’s just been ranting and raving about not understanding why a woman would care about her stillborn baby after fourteen years. This also works as a tearjerker in hindsight if you recall ‘Please God, let me live’ whenever John is genuinely in physical danger elsewhere in the series.
Pretty much everyone in the room agrees that in your last moments, you would think about the people you love the most. John apparently had no one to think about when he was close to dying. He really must have been lonely even before he returned from Afghanistan.
I hate you for making this post because it’s the best I’ve read on this subject and it hurts.
I REALLY hope the wedding isn’t John and Mary’s. I hope it’s somebody else’s, someone goes missing right before the wedding, (yay canon references) and John and Mary are already married. And you never seeing THEIR wedding but instead you just hear really weird mentions of it??? Like they see a pigeon land on somebody’s head and Mary’s like ‘This reminds me of the wedding’ and John just smiles and agrees and Sherlock is like what the fuck is going on??? And they refuse to tell him because THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR PLAYING DEAD FOR 3 YEARS
and in reality they’re just trying to freak him out and stuff. yes.
